Lifts and Escalators on the Istanbul Metrobus Line Are Being Renewed by AKE
- June 7, 2022
Renovation work has begun on the lifts and escalators on Istanbul's Metrobus line, which carries nearly 1 million passengers daily. As the lifts and escalators have reached the end of their service life due to intensive use, in the first phase 18 lifts and 10 escalators are being renewed by AKE.
On the 52-kilometre-long Metrobus line with 44 stations, there are a total of 63 lifts and 36 escalators, the maintenance and operation of which are managed by the İETT Operations General Directorate, Building Facilities Department. A lift that needs to be renewed is first dismantled from its location, then scaffolding is erected, after which the new lift is installed and the other necessary construction works are completed. Finally, the lift is inspected and certified by authorised organisations. All these processes take approximately 1 month. For escalators, the replacement process takes 1 week after manufacturing.
AKE expects the renovation work on the 18 lifts and 10 escalators concerned to be completed in August.
