  • November 26, 2021

Titled “Beginning”, a photograph taken during the installation of Antalya's longest escalator, produced for the bus terminal, won 1st place in the Ongoing Projects category of the contest held by the magazine. In the same category, a photograph taken inside the AKE factory titled “Silent Cut” came 3rd.

The Elevator World photo contest, held for the ninth time this year, received over 300 entries from America, Asia, the Far East and Europe. In this year's contest, which also drew participation from Turkey, AKE Marketing Corporate Communications Assistant and photographer Kağan Gürhan placed in the Ongoing Projects category with photographs he took of escalator and elevator projects. With his works titled “Beginning” and “Silent Cut”, Gürhan won first and third place.

“I like using dramatic elements in my photographs”

In his interview with Elevator World magazine, Kağan Gürhan said: “I like using dramatic elements in my photographs. When I take a photograph, my aim is to capture that moment and make people feel what I feel. I am always after genuine emotions.”

He said the following about the first-place work “Beginning”:

“The escalator I photographed is Antalya's longest escalator. In the photograph you see the first of the escalator's 6 sections. Here, an AKE employee is watching the work. He is aware that the job is not easy. I captured that moment and took its photograph.”

As for “Silent Cut”, he said:

“This photograph was taken at our factory in Antalya. The AKE employees in the photograph… I think it was during a break, because most of the lights were off. They had not gone on break; they were trying to finish their work. During working hours the factory is quite noisy. But when I took this photograph there was no sound inside; they were cutting the rubber material in deep silence. So I decided to reflect that moment in the photograph's title.”
